(Noun) Always a delightful, unannounced surprise. A "random" group of people in a crowd slowly and gradually gathers together to join in a musical piece - sometimes a Christmas carol, sometimes an orchestral piece ... .

Usage: Americans soon understand what a flash mob is once they're in the middle of one - but their first reaction is "Why are these troops taking cellos out?" Once they realize, everybody's lips curl into a grin.
